Delta sweep youth games 400m titles
Delta State athletes delivered strong performances on the track on Monday at the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, winning the boys and girls 400m titles, The PUNCH reports.
Reigning girls’ champion, Ngozi Okereke retained her title with a personal best of 53.50s.
She inspired a Delta 1-2 finish in the final, with Egoyibo Siviana getting the silver medal with a new personal best of 54.80s.
Jacinta Andrew of Akwa Ibom finished third in the race with a time of 57.46s.
Dominion Udoh also dominated the boys’ final, running a sub-50 for the first time at the biennial sports fiesta.
He ran a personal best of 49.33s to win the gold and couldn’t control his tears after seeing his winning time.
Former champion, Michael Aniche of Abia State settled for silver with a new PB and sub 50s as well, finishing second in 49.76s.
Kennedy Erhieyovwe of Delta State finished third in 50.41s.
